K3LR Guestbook posts from July 1999 - October 31, 2004
I live part time in Bridgeville Pa. and have seen your
station from the highway. If you know of anyone interested in 6,
28 foot light standards-galvanized steel- they are available from
Carnegie PA based steel fabricator. I can be reached at
412-257-8706 or 843-682-3031. Light standards have never been
used, probably weigh 400 lbs. a piece.

Many, many, cold winters ago in Western Pennsylvania, an
operator sat in his room throwing a knife switch between his
Heathkit DX60 and HR20 receiver. My first real contest, the ARRL
Novice Round-up, revealed an entry-level contestor within, as
stations responded to my CQ NR, CQ NR. Someone else listened, as
my QSO rate throttled up, then made a phone call, to a stunned
and excited novice amateur radio operator, overwhelmed by the
thrill of contesting.
I want to extend my deepest appreciation and thank you to Tim
Duffy. He gave me the opportunity, to trade in my knife switch
and dipole for a Drake TR7 and a few monobanders. Tim opened more
than a door for this operator. His inspirational mentorship
created a life-long passion for contesting carried to places like
the Philippines as DV2/KA3DRR and KA3DRR/0 in South Dakota.
Many, many winters have since passed from my first CQ NR using
Bencher Paddles and a transciever with VOX. Signals dramatically
improved over my half-wave dipole and my QSO rate throttled up to
near super-sonic. We enjoyed seeing my callsign in print for the
first time. Tim's phone call made more than a difference, opened
more than one door, and continues to inspire, even today.
Sincerely,
Scot Morrison KA3DRR/6

Hello Tim,
You might remember me from back around 1999. I was with
my girlfried at that time in a red 1990 4 door Cavalier and I got
stuck in a ditch near your antenna farm and we were able to pull
it out. Needless to say,I believe that the mud which ended up in
my car's cpu corroded it and it was not long that I ended up
trashing that car!!! Thanks for having a station that's such an
inspiration for hams all over the world! 73,Andy Strubbe K8AND

family that it wouldn't be a TOTAL waste of their time if we got
off the highway and figured out what was going on with all of
those antennas. I don't live far from the ARRL HQ, and I thought
THEY had an impressive set of antennas....until I saw yours! I
would love to get a tour some time....or even schedule my next

I was driving back from MI with my second tower in tow and
couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your QTH. Wow. What a fine
antenna farm. I normally don't travel that stretch of I80. It
didn't take long to track you down on QRZ.com. I just looked at
all the Hams in West Middlesex till I found you. Do you ever have
an open house for a close up look? Keep up the good work. I'll be
looking forward to hearing you on the bands. Do you ever work our
local Breeze Shooters Phone Groundwave on 10 meters?

Hi Tim. I really enjoy viewing all of your pictures. I met
you several years ago at a Beaver Valley Club meeting, and you
have inspired me since then. I never really had an official
contesting "elmer", but always think about "Kilo

I moved from PA to Wisconsin in 1994, and someday hope to visit
your station. Keep up the BIG signals and the professional
